Submitted by Elsa Aviza-Oberg, Plympton Elementary. About 15% of Plympton Kindergarten students fall below the grade level benchmark in math each year based on end of year testing. Some of these students are English language learners and many of them are classified in a high needs category such as low-income. A small group of these students received a take home math kit last spring. Expanding this program of sending home math materials for practice and involving parents to support their children at home would greatly benefit these students who are falling behind in Kindergarten.
